Every
year Bob Baffert seems to remind us he has no loyalty when it comes to jockeys.
Whether you think his shrewdness is sometimes uncalled for or not, you can’t
argue with his success in the Kentucky Derby. On Thursday he announced Garret
Gomez would replace Julien Leparoux aboard Flashback for the Santa Anita Derby
(G1), due to Leparoux’s performance last Saturday in the San Felipe (G2). As
I previously stated, I believe the criticism by jockey Kevin Krigger after
the race was unwarranted, however it does appear Leparoux may have let up on
Flashback just before the wire, allowing Hear the Ghost to eke out the
